Web Hosting Reviews
Web Hosting refers to the service providing space on the Internet for websites and domains. When an individual, group, company or organization want to create a website for the public, it is published or uploaded using a web hosting service. The way that this works is that high-powered computers that are connected to extremely fast networks store your files so that when your web address is searched or typed in, the Internet can reach these fast computers and transfer the information to the user seeking your website or information. This enables users to navigate the pages of the desired website and view all of the contents.
Domain names are the way that you can be found on the internet, they are your identifier and what make your site unique. It is, in essence, the website’s name, it is the address of your site and it is the name that users will use and remember when seeking your website. This means that domain names have to be unique, memorable and relevant.
When creating a website or looking at web hosting options, consider that there are the following types of web hosting:
• Shared Web Hosting
• Website Builder
• Cloud Hosting
• Dedicated Hosting
Shared web hosting
Shared Web hosting is a type of web hosting whereby the physical web server and its resources are shared amongst users. This is a web hosting method that implements limits on users’ disk space, traffic and databases. The physical and performance tools and resources are shared (i.e. the CPU, Apache server,etc.). The costs per machine are covered by multiple users which make Shared Web hosting one of the most economical web hosting methods for the host and the user/customer.
Cloud web hosting
Unlike Shared web hosting, cloud hosting uses resources from more than one server/machine. This cluster of machines is considered the cloud. One website may have or utilize the virtual/online resources of several servers so to best accommodate the clients’ and their website’s needs. This is a secure and largely online method that makes it accessible to users at any time. Cloud web hosting is hosting that uses the resources of several clustered servers. Basically, this means that your website uses the virtual resources of several servers to accommodate all the aspects and needs of hosting your site.
Compare web hosting
There are a number of advantages of shared web hosting. However, the scope of these advantages depend on the size of the hosted websites. First and most significant advantage is the cost, the savings are great enough to be the deciding factor for many users. Another advantage is the easy use, and that buyers are not required to perform technical maintenance on the server, and there is no maintenance needed when running programs. The ease of use is another attractive feature, as users do not have to know or be well versed in Linux, but rather all the user has to do is upload content and configure it and voilá, the site is ready. These websites are managed through a web based Control Panel to facilitate not only content updates but also emails and data management. Ultimately, Shared Web Hosting can be compared to renting an apartment as someone else does the maintenance and upkeep.
The disadvantages of shared hosting include limited resources, due to the shared nature and many users. This type of hosting can be restrictive to those with high traffic or demand. Secondly, there are limits to users’ ability to control their websites and limited customization due to common and shared administrators.
Cloud web hosting does not have shared administrators and unlike shared web hosting is actually known and has the advantage whereby users have access to multiple servers and the number of servers used is dependent on the needs or traffic of a user’s website. Cloud web hosting is often a place to turn when users outgrow their shared web hosting server. High traffic, popular web pages and bigger needs can cause a strain on shared web hosting resources and thus users may choose to turn to cloud web hosting to better fit their needs. Cloud hosting is not as cost effective as shared hosting but in the realm of hosting solutions, it is still on the affordable end of the spectrum.
A virtual server is a server that is in a different physical location but is shared by several web site owners and oper
ators. Each of these operators can access and use the server as though they have complete and total control. Virtual Server, or VPS hosting is a virtualized server. A VPS can be seen or compared to a hybrid between dedicated and shared hosting environment. This is because a VPS hosting environment is similar to a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. It involves a system where many users can access one server.
Unlike a virtual server, a dedicated server is one single computer that meets and serves the needs of the network. One computer may be tasked with managing communications, one computer may be tasked with managing printer resources, and so on. These dedicated servers are task and resource specific. It follows then, that a dedicated server hosting service involves a hosting service that is owned and operated by one sole user. This is the most costly web hosting option for users but is the most customizable and personalized.
